As those that joined us in 2012 will remember, Ride4Joshua was established to raise funds for Demelza Hospice Care for Children and to commemorate the care and support the Hospice Team gave to a very special little boy; Joshua Cullinane.
Joshua was born on the 16th November 2010 with a rare genetic disorder. He spent most of his short life in hospital. Once the decision was made to give Joshua palliative care, his family was introduced to the team at Demelza. They cared for Joshua and his family and offered an exemplary level of support in the last few months of his life. The family were able to live together in a truly unique environment and had the opportunity to create precious memories of being together.
Joshua passed away on the 29th March 2011 and Joshua's parents are determined to ensure that the Hospice can continue to offer vital support to other families. To this end, Ride4Joshua was set up as an enjoyable, non-profit event to help raise money for Demelza. In January 2012 100 riders joined us for what was a great day of cycling through some beautiful countryside. Later that year a team of us, led by Joshua's Dad Lawrence, took on the challenge of the 3 Peaks (yes, cycling between them) - see below. 2014 is set to be another great year of fundraising, with Joshua's Mum Kelly and her team cycling from Kent to Paris.
So far we have managed to raise £27,000 for the charity and with your help, we'd like to double this next year.
